Young Antoinetteknown to history as Marie Antoinette, was destined to marry into the French Royal Household. Because Austria had grown increasingly apprehensive of the strength of the Prussions in 1765 and could benefit from an ally like France, Maria Theresa made an outright proposal to Louis XV that Marie Antoinette should marry Louis-Auguste, his eldest grandson and future King of France. The proxy wedding took place at six o' clock in the evening on 19 April, and like her mother before her, Marie Antoinette was married in the Church of the Augustine Friars at the age of sixteen.
